Making the most of what I have

14-16 years

This session will encourage young people to talk about managing their money and share ideas about how they can make the most of their money. They'll learn about tax and national insurance, look at a range of occupations and salaries and discover how savings can help them prepare for the future. To help them take control of their finances, they will create a basic budget and think about how changing circumstances might force them to change how they manage their money.

KEY LEARNINGS

  • The importance of budgeting
  • How to evaluate financial products and pick the best one for the circumstances
  • Identifying situations that require planned saving and understanding when borrowing is appropriate
